ABOUT ENECO CLEAN BEACH CUP
80%. That's how much plastic waste vanishes into the North Sea and washes back onto our Belgian and Dutch beaches. A disaster for humans, animals and nature. The Eneco Clean Beach Cup beach cleanup campaign aims to change that. Or rather: we have to change that.
Since 2010, Eneco Clean Beach Cup has been sensitising and activating Belgians and Dutch to strive for a future without a plastic soup. This way, we not only take care of each other, but also of the world we are so dependent on.
Our mission? To inspire as many people as possible to opt for a long-term vision for our oceans.
HOW WE ACHIEVE OUR MISSION
First, we tackle the problem as close to the source as possible. Every year, we join forces during an inter-country beach cleanup. Thousands of volunteers clean up the coastline from De Panne in Belgium to the Wadden Islands in the Netherlands. The single use plastics? After collecting about 5 tonnes of plastic beach waste you shove them aside for good.
We also raise awareness as widely as possible. We deliberately keep Eneco Clean Beach Cup low-threshold. You are introduced to the problem and its consequences in an understandable way. That way, we reach as many people as possible.
OUR PRINCIPLES
In addition, as a non-governmental, international and neutral organisation, we engage in honest and respectful dialogue. We believe in the power of constructive dialogue. Open and transparent, our dialogue platform builds bridges between different interest groups.
We seek a balance between ecology and economy. We define, support and pitch solutions using the media. By being successful together and doing only what we believe in, we are determined to turn the tide.
ENTERTAINMENT AT MAIN LOCATIONS
Surf and beach clubs all along the coastline are ready for you with grabbers and trash bags. Lots of trash bags. In addition, every year we highlight a different Belgian and Dutch seaside resort. At the main locations, we organise numerous activities for young and old referring to the sea, Studio Brussel provides live coverage and various DJs play warming tunes.
The location with the most participants will win the Eneco Clean Beach CUP!
IN ASSOCIATION WITH WORLD CLEAN UP DAY AND SURFRIDER FOUNDATION EUROPE
Eneco Clean Beach Cup is a free event and is an initiative in collaboration with World Clean Up Day and Surfrider Foundation Europe. Together with several Belgian and Dutch surf and beach clubs, we are calling on as many people as possible to clean up the coastline.
